DVD Ripper - Don't Mind Paying

I'm aware that there has been a thread requesting recommendations for free DVD Rippers recently:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2354215&highlight=ripper
However, I don't mind paying (maybe £30) for something that works well, is free of technical faults (can overcome encryptions) and rips movies in a reasonable time. I only want to rip stuff for my iPod Touch - I'm not interested in bells & whistles. So from that perspective, I would also welcome any recommendations for good DVD Rippers.
I thought I'd done this when I paid around £30 for the Wondershare Platinum Ripper 15 months ago, based on good reviews. However there were a number of technical problems experienced when ripping DVDs (sections repeated, some sections missing, audio only or video only ...). I've just downloaded the latest version which may cure most of these, I don't know yet. The main issue I have is the time taken to rip a movie, which has lept up from an average of 4:15 to 6 hours, making it fairly worthless.
Admittedly our PC is around 5 years old, which is probably a contributing factor. But it still seems excessive anyway. I should say that these times are when nothing else is running on the PC, and it is also incredibly noisy too when ripping meaning I don't want to leave it overnight.
So I'd welcome any recommendations, and the sort of time one should realistically expect software to be able to rip a 90 minute movie say. Would also be interested to hear others experiences of Wondershare Platinum.

The times you've quoted do seem excessive.
It woud be worth trying DVDFab Decrypter free edition and comparing the performance. www.dvdfab.com
How much memory does your PC have? That may be a factor.
If you regularly rip DVD's then you may want to consider installing a 2nd hard disc, and rip to that drive instead of your C: drive. Should improve speed somewhat.0 -
I'll check a program on my other PC
It was actually completely free and I believe it got around all the protection on my latest DVDs when I ripped them.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Those times are very excessive
Its possible your computers infected as theres no reason at all for it to take that amount of time unless you mean its ENCODING too? (Making it fit a single density disc)
Were not allowed to help with pirating on here so I assume its for backing up your movies?:idea:0 -

I bought Magic DVD Ripper.
Great little program and rips DVDs to numerous formats - avi, mpg, ipod, and many others.
It only costs around $35.....yep...35dollars so it's around £22 or so.

After 30 days the "free" version does get crippled and only allows dvd cloning.
There is a free alternative, DVDDecrypter http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ (the original and still the best in my opinion) although it won't handle all of the latest encryptions.
When used with DVDShrink http://www.dvdshrink.org/what_en.php it's quite effective, and fast.
DVD43 http://www.dvd43.com/ is also pretty good and decrypts dvd's on the fly.0 -

I've downloaded DVDFab Decrypter but can't get it to work. It presents me with a "Welcome To DVDFab" screen with options to enter a registration key, but I don't have one. When I click Start DVD Fab, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
Memory is 512 RAM.
Although there is enough disk space, available space is critically low. Is it possible that it is struggling to find space for such a large file as the hard disk has become very fragmented and maybe the speed would improve if I did some kind of reorg ... if that's possible?0
