There will definitely be a noticeable improvement with the ram alone.
If you've got a licence key for the Windows OS (usually underneath the laptop), you can just grab yourself any OEM copy of Windows XP and simply use the licence key that came with the laptop.
Check to see if your laptop has a recovery option first, which will put it back in the state that it was when you first used it.0 -

At £21.14 for just the 512 mb one module, I had a look round.http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5748213/PNY-PC2700-512MB-333MHz-DDR-200pin-SoDIMM-Laptop-Memory/Product.html
I am pretty sure that will be fine right? or is it cheaper for a reason? I'm sure the 10 year guarantee will be more than enough.
From what I may have read, PNY is just rebranded from other brands. such as the SD cards etc.
That should be fine
Id recommend buying 2 so you have matching pairs as well as 1 gig ram:idea:0 -
When you've installed the new ram it's worth making sure that the virtual memory settings are changed to take it all into account.
By default, the amount of virtual memory will be managed dynamically by Windows. In practice, it works better if the virtual memory is set to double the amount of the installed RAM (2048MB if you have 1GB ram).
