Asparagus signs of life yet?
Should my newly-planted asparagus crowns have started to sprout yet? This is their first full year outside, and the newer ones in the greenhouse have been giving up tiny spindly spears for a few weeks now.
I know it's been cold, so am just wondering whether I'm expecting signs of life too early, or whether maybe they've been damaged/killed by the cold. I've brushed off the mulch I put down in autumn to see if I can see anything to prove they're still alive and can see nothing. Don't want to start digging around and disturbing them if all's OK.

Where are in the country are you? I'm in the East Midlands and I've just noticed mine coming through today. But my bed is about 9 years old. Younger plants may well take longer. I would just be patient. Asparagus is quite tough as long as you don't disturb it. You can't take anything the first year anyway.0

No sign of mine yet in Derbyshire, so don't panic yet. Different varieties sprout at different times, too, I think.0

I planted about 6 plants last year and a couple have started showing signs of life this weekend. I am in the East Midlands too.0

Still nowt (I'm in N Lincs, same lattitude as Sheffield). Would be a shame to have lost all 4 crowns. They've got two weeks or I'm going to start planting other stuff in the bed0

I'm in Kent, planted some two year old plants last year, and the spears coming up on them at the moment were about an inch tall today
