Have you got the recording and playback set up and working properly? Without that you can't do anything. And have you completed the training stages? It won't understand your speech straight out of the box.
What OS are you using, and what web browser? As far as I know it will support IE8, and Firefox 3-not sure about other browsers.
I suggest you try it with a known supported application like MS Word first.

Go to the main menu in IE, click on 'About Internet Explorer', it will tell you the version-you should be on IE8. 10.1 will support IE8.
Bit difficult to offer any advice, as you just say 'today it won't do anything'.
Have you tried just closing it and reopening?
Try the Nuance tech support pages-might be some assistance there:

    Thanks for that.
    Its IE 8.
I should just be able to say 'type text' when Im in the messagebox on MSE & it should then type but no joy.

Well its slightly different in star office as its a blank page IYSWIM.
On MSE i click on message box & then say 'type text' to get it to type.
The red arrow thingy has only come up once & then it only typed three words.

I think you need to check with Nuance tech support.
As a temporary workaround, you could just keep a Star Office window open, compose in that and then just cut and paste into your browser for MSE.
