Marks and Spencer Denies balance transfer!!!!!!!!!

Help!!!!!

Have just tried to transfer a balance from Marks and Spencer's &More card to Tesco's.... But Tesco says it can't pay it, it says it is on a list of banks that won't accept a balance transfer!!!! Is this the end!!? I don't think Tesco does a super transfer to my bank so I could then pay off M&S through My current account.. All help gratefully recieved.

So M&S won't accept balance transfers? That is ridiculous. Is that in the terms and conditions?

Do you have an Egg card? You could always get one as they do SBTs. If you already have one and it has a £0 balance you could do a BT from Tesco to Egg to put the Egg card in credit, then do an SBT into your bank account and then pay off M&S (then close their rubbish card down!)

If you have an Egg that you owe money on, then you could get an Egg blue instead and do the above.

have looked at m&s terms and conditions and see no glitch to bar BT's into their card accounts. Assistant at Tesco has list of barred cards that it'll not pay into, but she cant see why this is whether this is a M&S thing or Tesco, I don't know. I only just gave up an egg account. Seeing as i'm now due to pay interest on the M&S card now It might pay for me to do a cash advance off another card and then get it BT'd byTesco ( after checking with Tesco first that it'll pay it off!!) It'll take me 6 weeks to set up another card with 6 weeks of interest where it'll probably be cheaper with a cash advance fee ( depending on card)

I would ring M&S about this just to confirm what the problem is. And ring Tesco back and if they don't have a good reason for refusing the transfer, speak to a supervisor and find out exactly what the problem is. It seems pretty silly. Maybe Egg would re-open your account? You can only ring and ask.

Will Tesco tell you/us who is on this list of banks they can't do transfers for? Useful info, possibly....

I'm just applying to Tesco for the card to do BTs to!

Sounds silly, but how many times did you try? nh has suggested you ask to speak to a supervisor, but I think it's also worth just phoning up and trying again, as if nothing has happened. It's just possible that the first agent you spoke to didn't know what they were talking about.

Sorry I took so long to reply to this, Apparently the problem was with the account numbers and sort codes between the two companies. Tesco said M+S has to send them their number through for them to set up the BT account. I rang M+S, and of course they said it was not up to them it was up to Tesco!! But they tried to be helpful and took all my details and they said they'd ring back when they had an answer. So 3 days later I rang them and spoke to a very helpful lady who said nothing has been done about it.. surprise surprise... but she would definately look in to it and ring back in half an hour. She did ring back and said she she couldnt do anything at the moment but would definately get it sorted because M+S does not go out of its way to stop people from transferring money. So I left it at that and transferred it elsewhere... co op card for 7mths... as any more time wasted sorting it out was costing me a lot of interest.
