There is an ongoing beta of MS Security Essentials .. perhaps you are thinking of that.

In any case you can get the released version here for free of course!

Microsoft had a product called Windows Live OneCare, which has been discontinued in favour of their new product, Microsoft Security Essentials.

Well .. not quite .. this is from the MS Connect support newsgroup posted on the 11th March ..
Build 1.0.1961.0 is the first public update released to MSE v1 users.
It is exactly the same build as 1.0.1959.0 used by this beta group,
except some text changes in the license agreement. Based on your help
and feedback, we have decided that this build has reached a level of
quality that allows us to release it to the broader user base.
Therefore 1.0.1959.0 beta users did not receive the
    upgrade.

Please don't install the publicly available version as it will cause
you to leave this beta group. The version that you are using is
flagged as a beta build and allows us to send you upgrades for future
    beta versions.

    Thank you for your cooperation,
    The Microsoft Security Essentials Team
Quite why MS have decided on this peculiar numbering I don't know , but I am still in the beta program and using v.1959.

For normal use the public version is just fine though.

I have installed the microsoft security essentials,do i need anything else to protect my pc that is not included in the microsoft.
  • No, nothing else required [ unless you download / import trouble ] be assured it's all that's needed and it will just quietly work.
