Not very DFW but feeling sorry for myself

  • I know how you feel. I had to have my little cat Scampi put down in 2004, she had dementia, although she was only 12. The vet said this was due to the fact that she had an overactive thyroid, which we'd never managed to get totally under control, and it had speeded her metabolism up and made her age faster. She never put on much weight (because of the hyperthyroidism) and was a little bundle of skin and bones when she died.

Yesterday here in the village I made friends with a little thin black cat who looked just like my Scampi and really wanted to take him home. Realised I couldn't though, but it upset me to think about Scampi.

    Thinking of you today.

Thanks for all your kind words & wishes :A

You've all cheered me up, except Tine, whose post gave me leaky eyes! But I know you meant well!

The most poignant thing was the timing....mum died at 10.35 on the last Sunday in July last year....Stanley died 10.35 on the last Sunday in July this year...mum loved cats & had she been still alive, Stanley would have been retiring to live with her.....obviously he wanted to do that & not move to the seaside with me.

    Thanks again :A

p.s. Have changed my avatar to a photo of Stanley - as you can see he was a good-looking moggie (typical black short haired with white bib & toes)

Hey we're all here cos we've got a few problems with money. With support it's easy to put things into perspective, but money's not the only thing going on in our lives, so it's very inspiring to see so much love and support for everything else too.

If there was a forum equivalent of a group hug, damn guys, you'd all get one.

Floss, a very similar thing happened to me a few years ago.

My mum and dad both died at the same time, on the first Sunday in February, but 10 years apart.

It was, and still is sometimes, pretty hard to deal with. I try to think that mum never got over his death, and he came for her so they could be together.

Flippin heck, I'm off again. Tine had me going earlier, now I'm all soggy eyed again.

You're right, Stanley was a very handsome chap. Big hugs love :A

Sorry to have caused so many leaky eyes :)

I just love those two little bits of writing... although I always sniffle they always make me feel better too if that makes sense :) I take comfort from thinking maybe there is a place up there where all the animals I have loved over the years are all waiting for me. It makes it easier for me to live with their losses :)

Tine - both those are so lovely. After lossing my dog of 15years only 2weeks ago - I am sitting here in tears thinking of him up there waiting on me - and do you know what its actually a comforting thought!
