M & S credit card

in Credit cards
I have an old M & S chargecard, only for putting stuffs from the store. The sales assistant asked me whether I wanted to change to another one where I could have a PIN and better benefits as the one I have got you have to sign. I said yes, and she filled the form for me. I thought it was going to be a swap as I very seldom use it but I found that the application was for a M & S credit card which I really do not want. She was saying the benefits are much better. My concern is that she asked for my other credit and debit card details and she filled them on the form. I find this very strange, I did ask her why and could not remember what she told me. Is this normal? Thanks

The answer is yes and no
Yes:
In order to complete the credit card application form, they need two id to prove your name and the address, the prefect and easy one is debit card to confirm your name and driving licensed to confirm your address. And that is the standard requriement for credit scoring for M&S card.
NO
Each store has their own target to open the credit card, the way the assistant spoke with you could be seen as mis-led or even mis-sold product. In my local store, there're report that elderly had been heavily target to open credit card. Now M&S sells debt as well.
Sad.......
Personally, M&S chargecard is good if you shop with them quite often, but not the credit card:
Although you can get point for using your card elsewhere, the points you pile up can be only used in M&S, unlike Tesco credit card, that you can use point many places, or cashback card to get cash.Spend smart, and save more.0 -
The benefits for the chargecard and the &more card are the exact same. Unless you want to shop outwith m&s with it or you are always have a balance on it, asw the interest rate is lower on the &more, or you want to do a balance transfer where it is 0% for six months.0

With the &More credit card, the rate of interest is lower so if you always owe money on it, then you will pay less interest than if have the chargecard.
I have both of them but I prefer the &More card as I can earn points by using it in other places and I get better voucher offers with it for shopping in M&S which I do regularly such as free vouchers use in M&S coffee shops, money off vouchers and 3x &More points vouchers too on food etc.0 -
Another benefit of M&S &more credit card is that you can buy foreign currency in M&S, pay for it on the credit card and it gets treated as a purchase (which is interest free if you pay off in full each month). This is unlike most credit cards which would treat foreign currency purchases as a cash advance and charge interest from the transaction date until it is fully paid off. M&S also don't charge a fee like most debit and credit cards would, add to this the fact that they don't charge commission and all in all its a good deal.
