Hello
Could it be due to a poor credit rating as I was told this as well when I wanted meters took out that a previous tenant had put in due to non-payment of bills? Then when my partner moved in (who has a good credit rating) they let him have normal meters put in free of charge. This was with British Gas.

OP, do you mean that they want to charge you £150 for the meter changes, or that they want you to put a £150 deposit down once you have a credit meter? Slightly different things. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Going deeper into what macman said, if it's £150 for the meters, that's quite expensive. If it's a £150 security deposit, you'll get it back after one year. The savings with an online tariff & monthly direct debit, depending on your usage, will likely give you £150 savings, and then you'll get £150 back all in one at the end of the year
