Bill paid for twice leaves me overdrawn?

Hiya,

I pay for my phonebill on my creditcard (bill comes out on 24th of month) and then pay it on the 1st when my wages go in..normally no problem but this month ive paid for my phonebill and they have taken it out of my bank aswell which has left me £50 over my overdfrat!!

I am going to be charged but the question is who do i contact 1st..the bank and ask for the charge to be removed or 02 for taking the money twice, which leads to me being charged by the bank?

I hope you understand this ok :)

Ok, if I've understood this right you have paid a bill by credit card and a duplicate payment has been taken from your bank account by direct debit?

If it's a direct debit then you can ask your bank to reimburse the funds via a direct debit guarantee.

If they have debited your bank account using your debit card then you need to take this up with the collecting company, not the bank.

Who is at fault? The bank have paid what is requested, so they are not at fault. Any request to the bank to reimburse charges relies totally on their goodwill.

Are O2 at fault? If you've paid on the 24th Feb (Wed), it's likely that the process for direct debit / debit card transaction has been instigated prior to the credit card payment hitting your account in order to collect a payment on 1st March (Mon). It's not obviously clear to me that they've done anything wrong.

    Hope this helps.

if you have a DD set up on the account letting them draw the bill, why pay it on credit card?

How long before it was taken by DD did you pay it by credit card? The circumstances you describe happens if you leave it too late - in which case it would be your error. If O2 notified you of the date and amount (which they will have done), then there was no DD error so the guarantee probably won't apply.
