Car Insurance 17 year old male

Options
I knew it would be expensive but cheapest so far is £2307, that's with adding me (Mum) as an aditional driver. I'm sure I got it down to just over £1000 with my other two sons.

Anyone got any ideas?

The car we are thinking of buying is a Citreon C3 05 model. (group 3)

Apart from the thousands already given on other threads asking the exact same question? Not really.

DONT pick a popular car - a Saxo (mechanically) is a good choice of first car - but think of the number written off by males under 21 every year - insurance is all about mining trends from data, and that trend puts the car / age / sex combination into a risky rating.

Conversely, how many Volvo 840's are written off by under-21 males every year?

All you can do is keep getting quotes, insurance follows no logical pattern - my first car was a 1.5L Proton Wira, with 84 stampeding horses - but was group 11 insurance. To change from that to an MG ZT (admitedly) diesel was only an extra £100 at age 18, and to change to a Rover 75 would of been no charge.

    Think outside of the box.

Well we've gone with the dreaded Quinn, hope I don't regret this they were hundreds of pounds cheaper than anyone else.

Hopefully we won't have to claim....

It actually brought the price down by adding his girlfriend as well as myself :)

Has your son passed his test? If he hasn't then you may want to check whether an additional premium will be payable once he does, as I am aware from other posts on here that some insurers do this, as the risk goes up.

Thanks for that but he's actually passed his test and also completed pass plus yesterday, which I was waiting for before we bought the insurance . So there shouldn't be any changes requiring extra payments.
