Sending Phone To Turkey - seller wants IMEI number

Hi

I sold this phone

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330012707303&sspagename=ADME:B:RTQ:UK:1

Then after I had sent an invoice I got this from the buyer

[FONT=Arial, Verdana]Hi again. I am ready to send the money, but in turkey we have problems with IMEI numbers. If it is not proper for using in turkey, the phone will be closed. Therefore, I ask you to send me the imei number of the phone, so I can control here, if it is a clon number or not, which means that the same Imei number is already used in Turkey. After the control, I will send your money immediately. Thanks for your connection. I am waiting for your answer.

I suspect this is a scam as I already stated the phone is locked to the "3" network and to make sure it would work with their preferred network.

So what shall I do??

Many thanks for any help forthcoming

EDIT: Looking at the bids I noticed that only 1 comes from the UK (at £30), the big bids come from the winner plus 1 bidder in Portugal and 1 bidder in India!!)

Personally I would not have listed a phone for overseas bidders, no overseas postage service now covers mobiles in the post if they cost more than £32.

If he has an IMEI number he can remotely block the phone (I believe?) which concerns me a great deal.

    Incidentally is he using paypal?

For all his talk of worries about cloned phones... I think if he has the IMEI no. he could clone it himself. Stinks of fish.

I wouldn't send the IMEI number. If it looks like a scam, it probably is ...

Ask for Payment, and if they don't pay go through the usual non payment process.

As the phone is locked to 3, and can only be unlocked by them , you have to ask , why would anyone in Turkey want it. Must be a scam.
  • I will give the answer for the people, who wonders why I wanted to know the Imei number again. I am the one who wants to buy the phone of RusWWFC. First of all, in Turkey every mobile phone seller can unlock the phones. Second one is about the imei number. In turkey, government established a telecommunication institution which manages all of the mobile phones in turkey. If it is a clon number or if it is not registered to that instution, the phone will be automatically closed and nobody can use it. Due to this restriction a lot of people cannot use their phones nowadays. I suggest people here, don't give any advice if you don't have enough information about the procedures in that country don't blame anyone because of your unawareness. Thanks a lot.

Onorunal, when you bid on ebay, you are committing to buy. The time to ask questions is before you bid, not once you've won the item.

You've won the item so you're obliged to pay for it. The seller is under no obligation to give you anything until you've paid. If there is a problem with it when you receive it, you will have the same channels of resolution as the rest of us.

  • Like Soo has said no overseas postage service now covers mobiles in the post if they cost more than £32 so neither the buyer nor the seller will be covered here.

  • I agree with that procedure but it would be my first purschase and a friend of mine has warned me about the Imei number today. After that, I have to ask that question and it is absolutely innocent.
