Connecting Flights Missed Due to Delay

Hi

I am flying away in a couple of weeks and have a connecting flight at CDG. The connecting flight with the same airline is only one hour after the first flight lands.....eeekk

What would happen if my first flight is delayed and we are unable to get the connecting flight?

Very nervous that I may miss flight in CDG due to whatever reason!!!

If you have a through ticket with a scheduled airline it is their problem and they will have to get you on another flight.

If you had two Ryanair or Easyjet flights it would be your problem as they only sell A to B flights not A to B to C.

Thanks - hopefully there will be no delays but if its their problem to sort out then I dont have to worry about the costs etc either?

If the flight happens to be the next day do they have to sort a hotel out for us as well?

Are these 'rules' written down somewhere?

Generally, if the delay is due to circumstances outside of the airlines control you will be expected to find your own accommodation. If the delay is due to a technical issue with the aircraft you should be accommodated by the airline. Check your ticket rules by all means, it may not disclose coverage though.

You would be wise to check the terms of your travel insurance to make sure such accommodations are covered.

You should be covered under your travel insurance but most airlines will get you out on the next flight.

Under Article 9 of EC 261/2004 you are entitled to meals and refreshments as well as 2 phone calls/emails/faxes in relation to the waiting time for your new flight in instances of delays and cancellations. Should your new flight be the following day then overnight accommodation should be provided together with transport cost to/from airport and accommodation.

If the airline doesn't arrange this for you. you should book this yourself and claim the receipted costs back.

The full regulation is here: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML

Circumstances outside the airlines' control do not act as a get out for the airlines to avoid 'caring' for pax under Article 9.

I would also contact the airline concerned to check that the booking you have made fulfils their minimum connection time at CDG.

Personally i always carry a copy of the regs with me too!
