Is easyclean paint false economy?

Options
Hey moneysavers

My parents are looking to redecorate their house, every room so looking to save money if possible. However, they also have 3 small grand children very into painting the walls with anything they can get their hands on!

Does anyone have any experience with the easyclean paints from Dulux or Crown (or can recommend any other brands that clean well? Or is it worth using the tip of buying tester pots to keep to 'touch up' damaged walls? My fear is that the colours will fade after being put on the wall, and retouching the walls a year later, for example, will show it as a touch-up job.

Because it's really that easy, right? Plus, it's not just drawing on walls, it's things like creams and paint, mud and such. Along with a dog who, unavoidably living in a rural location, enjoys swimming and getting muddy and then ends up brushing against the walls.

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I would also be interested to know the answer to this. I am considering getting some decorating down in the hall in the next couple of months - our hall gets scuffed quite alot.

    Many thanks.:)

Apparently Dulux diamond matt is pretty durable. No experience of it though.

Definitely not false economy!! I've used Dulux, Crown and also Wilkinson and B&Q versions. They all clean up well and I haven't used any other paint since I discovered them. Obviously the stains that don't come off anything else won't come off the walls either but general grime comes off easy. Cut the costs by painting ceilings in cheaper stuff!

Thanks for this, Esmy! Is there any brand is particular that you'd recommend?

Problem with washable paints is that they are only useful for stuff that can be washed off e.g. sticky fingerprints. If the kids really do draw on walls (why are they allowed to??? Mine certainly weren't!!!) then you are not going to get stuff like wax crayon marks off.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.

Think ahead. What about when you need to repaint or need to strip back to base? Many of these paints won't work with each other, or don't bond to the original surface.

I'm just coming to the end of stripping off the interior walls of a whole house. Every inch of these 'special' paints had to be removed by hand.

There really is no substitute for straightforward, good quality ordinary emulsion. When it gets grubby, simply whip our the roller and it's redone in no time.

Oh, and don't let the little tykes trash the walls in the first place ...

i,m about to get crown easy clean this week as i cannot keep walls clean from the dogs, they must brush against walls a lot as i always have dirty marks dog high.
also my 3 grandchildren all aged under 6 are always touching the walls with their hands as they walk by and one of them will always leave a grubby mark ,even a little finger print shows up and spoils the whole wall.
i think the paint will be a great moneysaver for me as at the moment i paint each wall twice a year.

    Hi CharliLynx
I like Wilkinsons paint (of all varieties) but last used Crown easyclean and liked that too. HTH
