Paint Brands - which are good - or poor?

We are doing a couple of rooms up and are interested to find out which paint brands people recommend.
From experience we have found Dulux emulsion to be good quality but their white gloss and satin bad. We have found Crown emulsion OK but again their white gloss is terrible.
We are not really interested in the "do it once, do it quick" products because from experience they are a false economy. One coat paint and self undercoating stuff. If anyone has positive experiences please let us know.
The best white satinwood we have found is B&Q everwhite which is water based so very easy to clean and more importantly it is non yellowing so stays white.
Can any painters and decorators or anyone really recommend paint brands to help us?

We use 'Green Paint' from the green shop. Really happy with it, it goes on much better than Crown, the smell is pleasant, it is the consistency of double cream - we have just used some Crown emulsion as DS3 wanted carrot orange in his room and the green paint doesn't come in that shade. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

What is the consistency of single double cream? Doesn't cream come in single or double or whipping?
Most paint we have used is the consitency of thick double cream. Thanks for the response though.0 -
Sorry I started to type single and then thought no it is more like double and obviously didn't read back. Too late in the day for me I think. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

I only use Dulux emulsion. Have tried B&Q and Homebase in the past but it's not a patch on Dulux.
I like B&Q everwhite gloss too on skirting boards but didn't like the finish on doors so use Dulux and a small roller to apply.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

we have just painted our front room with wilko vinyl silk and it looks fab, paint went on easy and cleans off places where its not meant to be easily too. their gloss is spot on aswell. i don't like wickes paint its too matt and i avoid dulux satinwood because it chips after a few months so no good for a family home.Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

Im a dulux fan, the cheaper brands needs 2 coats where with dulux you can mostly get away with one coat.. so that saves time and money really .... When glossing I use crown solo gloss been using that for years it keeps white and shines lovely. :T0

A Dulux standard pro decorator recommended that I use Zinsser Bin 3 in 1 sealer, primer and undercoat the shellac version. yes, it is designed to save pros time but it gives an incredible, durable finish and dries within 45 minutes so saves you have to do a sealer, primer and undercoat and waiting for the lot to dry. You can pick it up from leyland paint centres. I too am not interested in cutting corners but when it works and the pros use it I think it must be good.0
