I wrote on here a few months ago that I wanted to change from Npower, and asked if I would be allowed if I owed money. They put my direct debit up to £107 per month before xmas and I found I only owed £4 in arrears. So the change went ahead. I owe Npower for 3 weeks fuel, I have not done a calculation yet as to the exact amount, however just found out they have took £107, and have not even put my bill on line for me to see it.
How long do they keep hold of money that do not belong to them, at a rough estimate I think it,s about £40 I owe.
Others have said this, never change to Npower, even if they are lowest. What am I talking about, they are the lowest, lowest of the low

It is entirely normal and reasonable that direct debits will be taken. Your timetable does not really make sense - what do you mean you owe three weeks fuel? If it's three weeks this time of year then you should be pleased that they only took the regular payment - are you arguing they should have taken three-quarters of three times your monthly instalment? £221?
What date did the transfer to your new supplier commence?0 -
Sorry about that, I should have made myself more clear.
I gave Npower readings of my gas and electric and they put my bill on line soon after, stating that after they took my direct debit of £107 left me in arrears of £4. I gave my readings to Atlantic the firm I am moving to three weeks later, and that means I owe for 3 weeks fuel plus the £4 I owe.
So I think they should have put my bill on line, and took out the correct amount. Because what this means is I have to phone them and explain what as happened, extra expense.0 -
they will wait until your new supplier confirms the start read then refund you0

Or, if you owe any more, they'll take just the difference.0

I just phoned npower...And was told that I should have cancelled my direct debit before it was due, and they would then bill me for what I owe. So instead of me chasing them for my money, they would be chasing me.
I can't believe what the lady said could be true, it's ludicrous, it means they would spend money sending my bill by post, and I would have to send a cheque for the amount.
When all that was needed is for them to calculate the correct amount that was owing and take that amount from my account.
Like I said Ooh npower again.0 -
Different companies do things differently. Some suppliers won't take any more DDs after you've left their supply, but then hit you with a larger final bill (unless, obviously you're in a credit situation) or some take your DDs until a final bill is generated (usually up to 28 days later), meaning you either have some back or have less to settle. I suppose it's all swings and roundabouts.0
