as long as the OP doesn't sell the cd with the copied tracks then whats the problem, ive made copies of music i bought with my own money for use in my car,

The problem is that it's illegal.

The music industry have done a lot in the last few years to change common opinion on the matter of piracy. A decade ago most people didn't have a problem with piracy (on a small/individual scale). Now, on many sites (such as MSE) people pretend to be outraged at the thought of it. Many people have even become sanctimonious about "doing the right thing" by paying for MP3s or ripping music from CDs that they have bought.

The point I'm trying to make is that such sanctimony is misplaced: as far as the law is concerned if you rip a CD you are a criminal. The law is a muel! And people are hypocrites if they sanctimoniously proclaim to obey the law... yet are happy to rip CDs.

I suppose I'm saying that no one should act because of the law - they should always ignore the law and do what they think is right. Also, copyright law should be revised so that individuals have more "fair use" rights, whilst protecting artists from industrial-scale copyright abuse.

    Ah well... just my thoughts...
