Council garage contents insured?

Hi

I have been looking through my home insurance policy to see if the contents of the council garage we rent will be covered

The home insurance policy states.
"The contents of your garage are covered under your contents policy providing your contents sum insured is sufficient to include them."

however we rent the garage which isn't attached to the house but is in a seperate block from the council. We have quite a lot of tools in the garage and i am not sure if these are covered by the house insurance.

Anyone have any ideas?

I was going to call the company on monday but think writing might be better as i don't want someone on the phone to say yes and then if ever i need to make a claim they say no.

It's probably not covered, it's worth asking them though

The contents of your garage will not be covered by the council insurance, the same as the contents in your house are not covered by council

You would have to insure them yourself, this can be an addition to your house contents insurance but you would have to explain about where the garage is.

Personally, i wouldnt leave any thing of any value in a council garage, they are far from secure at the best of times.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Thanks

Our council garage is secure, in fact i worry that with it looking so secure it might make it more appealing. There are just lots of tools in there for my car obsessed partner.

We own our home so insure that ourselves for building and contents. I think that if i bring the main big expensive tools in from the garage they would go in the shed so best check the level of cover of that too.

I don't think the OP was asking if it was covered by the Council insurance, she was asking if it is covered by her own insurance, and I agree it would be best to get confirmation in writing from the insurance company, as we all know how they like to wriggle out of paying if they can!
