Asos dress

I ordered a dress from asos which arrived this morning. As soon as I opened the parcel, I could smell something awful....the dress reaks of cigarette smoke, which would indicate to me that it has been worn and returned.

I emailed asos, saying I didnt want to return the dress because I need it for a wedding this week, and wouldnt get it back in time, but that I wasn't very happy with their service. They emailed me back, but it was the standard email, if you are not happy with you goods, please feel free to sned them back for free blah blah blah, I know this is a good service, but I specifically said I didnt have time to sent it back.

Don;t really know what I was expecting them to say really, but would have been nice if they had offerend me money off my next order, as I will need to get the dress dry cleaned before this wedding. I know this is me being naive but it still would have been nice!

  • I guess they will have procedures, either send it back, or keep it.
I used to work in Bank, and if a customer complained but didn't want to return the item, we were forbidden to offer anything. Management wouldn't believe that if there was a problem, the customer wouldn't return it, and simply saw it as the customer wanting extra money off.
Asos might have a similar policy?

That is terrible, though, and its certainly made me think harder about ordering from Asos again.

Thanks, I kind of guessed that's what it was. I can understand that people probably do try it on with them.

If it wasn't an item of clothing I need for this week it would be going back, but the leaflet says allow 10 days for the item to reach us!!!!! I guess a smell is not a major problem...easily rectafiable, but I wouldn't pay full price for an item like that in a shop!

Never mind, the good news is the dress fits and looks good lol:T

what was the packaging? the grey and blue posting bags have a habit of making close smell like smoke - is quite well known on ebay now and people who sell clothes regularly no longer use them as people got angry thinking that the items were used.

actually I was thinking that! Sometimes my clothes smell awful when I get them from places that use those bags!
  • Eugh, I hope I never buy anything that comes in them! You could try telling Asos that you think its the bag that's made it smell?

I'm glad it looks good, that's the main thing!

  • Thank you for all your replies, I never even thought of the bag. It seems a bit daft if it is the bag, I mean its not a smell you have to put your nose up close for to smell, I took it out the bag and my boyfriend who was the othe side or the room said eurgh what's that smell!

Never mind, its now in the washing machine!
