We used L&C for our mortgage 3 years ago and are coming up to remortgaging. I have had 2 emails and a hard copy letter form L&C informing me I'm due to remortgage and inviting me to contact my consultant there who handled our mortgage before. I have since called him MANY times and always get his answerphone - left countless messages and sent emails. I thought perhaps he had left the company - so called them direct to be told no he hasn't left and I was only able to speak to him because he was handling our case. This has been going on for 2 months and now I have given up on them. Utter rubbish.

Go to a whole of market broker for advice if they cant be easily got hold of, forget them...their loss

Thanks to the many posters who have mentioned their positive experience with L&C. It’s always rewarding to know we’re doing a good job but we take all feedback seriously, both positive and negative.

Phirefly, Sorry you’ve had problems getting through to your adviser – if you give me some more details (such as your reference number) in a private message I will make sure someone contacts you. Of course, I appreciate you may not want to, but the offer’s there to help if you like

You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct. ( I have ammeded this signature slightly, as I do not actively provide mortgage advice. However, I support and adhere to the moneysavingexpert mortgage broker code of conduct)

Are you authorised to conduct business on this site?
  • Does that count as conducting business or offering to help one some one out??

Either way, I had read one or two people mention difficulties with getting call backs etc, it wasn't a problem for us what so ever. Both phone calls and emails were responded to well within a satisfactory time frame.

Our mortgage was sorted out smoothly and most importantly of all very quickly. Even in spite of having to change lenders 80% of the way through our first application when Abbey bungled up due to a "training error", and ultimately having to restart the entire process with Nationwide, our solicitor said she was very impressed with how quickly and efficiently everything had gone with the mortgage application.

It does seem that a few people have had dodgy experiences, but the whole reason I chose London and Country was because it came with a Martin Lewis stamp of approval, and they certainly lived up to it for us...

This site does not check out the validity of a signature...I could have the signature of a lawyer/accountant/adviser, how would you know I wasn't one of those.........or do you assume as I dont have a signature I'm neither of these?...........

As for an "adviser" asking :"if you give me some more details ...in a private message."........is outrageous on a forum and I hope Phirefly hasn't...........
  • A reference number is a fairly harmless detail and isn't really much use to any body other than somebody who is actually in a position to use it to help...

I think Mortgageman's compliance dept would disagree with you...

To be fair, a few companies prowl the site and offer help in this kind of case. I think it is ok if he/she is open but I think they should be refered to the company in question directly as mortgageman could be anybody!

Another vote for L&C from me. I've used them 3 times in total over nearly ten years, remortgaged twice through them, and the third time got a similar offer with my existing mortgage company so decided to "stick" to save the hassle.

Each time they've been professional, responsive, efficient and helpful. When I decided not to go through them the third time after they'd done some investigation for me, they were courtious with zero pressure apart from an offer to contact me in a couple of years.

Having now applied directly to a mortgage company I am suprised at the huge amount of form filling I have to do, often repeating the same information multiple times. If a broker can take some of that pain away, then great.

    Rufus.
