Wave Mapper?

I have just upgraded my desktop from a Dell Dimension 8300 to a Dell Vostro 430.

I used MP3 Direct Cut to record with the Dimension. It did it using Wave Mapper as the Input Device.

Although the Vostro has Wave Mapper as one of the three Output Devices no Input Device is available!

I have no idea what Wave Mapper is but how do I get it as an input device?

    Hi
    I use mp3DirectCut to edit mp3 files.
I've never used it as a recorder though.
On the mp3DirectCut website it says:-
mp3 recording with ACM or Lame encoder
But I can't see any instructions how to do that.

Thanks for your reply. I usually use the lame encorder and have transferred it to my new computer and it's showing MP3DirectCut settings.

Perhaps it's something to do with the sound card. The Vostro has a ATI High Definition Integrated Sound Card. If I got a separate sound card would that solve the problem?

I take it your new desktop has Vista or Windows 7. In these operating systems the wave mapper input is hidden by default. To enable it, follow the instructions on this page.

(Basically, you have to open up Sound from the control panel, click the Recording tab, then right click within the window and select "Show disabled devices". Then right click on the sound card that shows up and select "Enable"
