BT Overcharge GRRRRR

I know this has been talked about on here in previous months, but I just received a monthly bill from BT which is almost double my normal payment - this is due to their balancing/top-up/updating/rip-off charge that they've levied in order to synchronise the billing and usage dates... I have been charged an extra 23 days, which has put my bill for this month up from £37 to £69.
My question is - has anyone had any success in getting BT to renege on any of this or waive the charge? As things currently stand I have paid the equivalent of almost two months' charges but will have nothing to show for it unless I leave BT and get a month refunded. It seems like a cynical ploy to ease their cashflow, while putting a serious dent in mine!
If they'd informed me of this last month I could almost have accepted it, but only being told in this month that my direct debit payment will almost double is not very helpful!
We have spent close to an hour on the phone discussing it but do not appear to have achieved anything - the staff tell us with great joy and glee that our payments will go back to normal next month, but they simply don't seem to understand that they've effectively taken an extra month's money from us, that we will never see back unless we exit the contract.
