Hot Chocolate (drink)

Dont know if this is on the right forum or not so apologies if it isnt.

Does anyone know of a really good hot chocolate that you can buy to make at home? Im spending too much money buying from Costa Coffee etc but havent ever come across one that you can buy from supermarket/online that tastes any good. A friend suggested Green & Blacks but I wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

I'm a traditional sort of gal so I don't believe there's anything better than good old Cadbury's drinking chocolate made with milk, except for mixing it 50/50 with good old cocoa. I suspect that some of the supermarket own-brands might be packaged by Cadbury's for them.
  • The Spanish Chocolate you get from Tesco is delicious, but expensive at just under £5 a tin - it is the same sweet, thick chocolate that you get in Spain.

is it just normal flavour hot choc you like or is it the flavoured ones as i know you can buy the syrups that they put into the hot choc for about 10 pounds a bottle but it last for ages

I have not tried it myself sadly as I have always been a bit  at the price but it certainly seems to be a luxury product. They have sold this for years so it must be a good seller.

Buy a bar of your favourite chocolate, grate it into some hot milk - liquid chocolate mmmmm!

I like the Options range which you make with boiling water and I usually add a dash of milk to make it a bit more creamy.

I'd say green and blacks every time.

  • Hey there

I'm a hot choccy lover too and I second your friend's suggestion for Green & Black's if you don't mind it being expensive - it's £3+ a jar round here but that's definitely cheaper than buying from Costa, Starbucks etc!

When I was a bit more flush than I am now, it was G&B's all the way but times are hard now so having tried a few cheaper ones that weren't great, I drink Asda's own brand (not Smartprice), it's about £1.50 for a big tin and it tastes pretty similar to G&B's but at half the price.

As others have said, Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate made with hot milk is gorgeous and Options and the Aero hot choc drinks are pretty nice as well. You can often get individual sachets in some supermarkets so your best bet might be to try and few and see what you think.

Don't think you'll be disappointed if you get some Green & Black's though!

Gets my vote too :T. Can't beat a couple of squares of dark chocolate mixed with hot milk.
