I had to re-install window xp on my computer after I had the blue screen of death. I took it to a computer shop. Please how do I back up the whole system as it is now as I do not want to go through the tedious process of installing all the softwares again and updating window updates? I only back up files I think I might need again and photos. So external drive for me just an usb flash drive. Thanks

Create a suitable partition on the HDD and then create an image of your C drive on it.0

You can use a free tool to do a complete backup of your system, and then use something like Microsoft's SyncToy to keep copies of your photos and such.
Creating a partition on another hard disk would work, but you wouldn't want your backups on the same physical drive as your Windows install, in case it's the hard disk that fails.
I'd advise reading through any and all documentation before doing anything!
