Netgear router says No...

My Netgear DG 834G v2 router is refusing to communicate with any wi-fi equipped computers in the house, but is happily speaking to this computer which is ethernet cabled. This appears to have come about following a recent doubling of line speed upgrade to 8192Kbps via Virgin Net. Initially, following the upgrade, I had to phone Virgin Support and have them re-set the account because even the ethernet linked computer was down (although this has occured each time Virgin has upgraded the connection). I have tried turning off the router and then switching it back on again, but no joy. Whenever this problem has happened in the past, this normally solves the glitch. None of our two laptops is able to pick up the router, except for a fleeting second or two, when the network name is broadcast. When scanning for the network, neither of the two laptops can even identify it as existing, although will pick up networks on either side of the house (which are password protected, so we cannot use them! Ours is also password protected!)
1. Why aren't the laptops picking up the network?
2. Why can they do so fleetingly? It is a matter of seconds only.
3. How can I overcome this problem?
Thanks for your help.

I did as you said and was able to get a connection. Although the signal strength was "Excellent" trying to get anything downloaded onto the laptop from the Internet was painfully slow. It also took several attempts, with the router dropping out on occasions too.
Do you think the download into the router is too fast for it to handle? Virgin, in their original email, suggested upgrading drivers, but I can't find any of these on Netgear's homepage.0 -
PS How do you change channels?0

You don't need drivers for a router. There are firmware updates for them however. It can handle 8Mb/s easily.
