Probably not the right place to post so apologies, but i would just like to pose a question. How long does it take if you have a housing executive home (or council if in England) to transfer your home with someone else?
Any replies much appreciated !

Do you mean if you exchange your home with someone else? Usually its about a 6 week turn around from when the paper work goes in, a long as there aren't any problems.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

Yes that is what I mean thanks! I live with my mum along with my 12 year old and she is transferring to another town so I have to find rental accomodation really fast
so i wanted to know how fast, especially when i need to find 1st months rent. This is gonna be tough as I work part time and need to apply for housing benefit and i have no clue about that

Are you looking for a transfer or are you looking for a new property? If the former, have you found someone to exchange with?Gone ... or have I?0

No its not for me! I am just enquiring due to the fact that i stated above that my mum is transferring to another town and my dd and I need to know the speed of this as we are now in the position of trying to find a home quickly0

Finding social housing can take a long time. If you wish to do an exchange, you will need to find someone to exchange with you. This can be very quick, however there are people on exchange lists that have been there for years. Equally if you are looking for social housing as a new tenant, some people have been waiting for years, depending on area and the type of housing you are looking for.
I don't know whether the situation is as bad in Scotland as it is in England, but you could be in for a long wait. Have you looked at private letting?Gone ... or have I?0 -
So your mum is moving area and you wish to stay where you are? And its just you and your daughter?
It might be best to go to your local council offices and see what the situation is with regards to council/housing association properties, you may be classed as a priority if you are being made homeless so to speak.
Alternatively private renting would be a good option, not sure how it works where you are, we get Local Housing Allowance, which covers part if not all of the rent depending on your income.
Has your local council got a website? there would be info on there.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
Everyone, This is the situation
I live with my mother and my 11 year old in her house.
She is moving to another town.
She will be doing this via a transfer.
I need to know how long this will take.
My daughter and i will in effect become homeless.
I need to know how long we have got.
I work part time and do have a deposit for a private rental, although i do not have the first months rent. I am very upset and very worried as to what i will do.0 -
I know you're talking about private accommodation but if I were you I'd firstly and urgently present as (potentially) homeless at the council offices. Don't just accept being placed on the housing list (which is usually for both LA and HA). The council will probably have a duty to house you and you'd be more secure in social housing than with a private landlord.
Try Shelter as they're extremely knowlegeable and helpful

As has previously been said, it's not a question of how long the paperwork will take but how quickly your mother can find someone who lives in the new area and wants to swap a house like hers . It could be weeks or years.0 -
