Shower room extractor not working?

hi,
Our 2 yr old shower room has an extractor fan on the outside wall which has just stopped working.

There is an 'on-off' switch for this outside the door,at the top, and the light switch is outside the door lower down. When the 'on-off'swich is on then the extractor fan comes on only when the light is switched on - or at least it did!
My husband looked at the big 'on off' switch to see if there was a fuse, but there wasn't.

I imagine the builder just put a bog standard fan in.
Any advice regarding this, or should we get an electrician in?
thanks
