buying at auction BCA nottingham Query
Hi we bought our last car and our last van at bca blackbushe the car we bought 2 years ago for 3900 it's now worth 3500 private with another 30,000 on the clock so is up for sale so we can go back to get a
grand scenic or Laguna sports tourer, we are looking at £5000 spend on this can someone in the know give me a rough idea of mileage and plate for that money (pref dynamique up) Thanks in advance,
Also does renault (rci fs) only go through nottingham now? and is this a decent/large site as if i go it will be a 7-8 hour round trip for me but renault is def what we want and the last one from them (at blackbushe) has been perfect full main dealer service hist etc... so will go if it's worthwhile, do they do 2 a month? i know of the april ones but the 16th which would have been ideal is my sons hospital app in london which rules us out, will they be there in May too??? sorry loads of questions and really appreciate any info you can give me.
Thanks again Cat x

Why do you want a Laguna !!!!!!...?! I wouldnt drive 7 minutes round trip for one...
Renault do have a large sale at Brighouse I think if you really WANT a Renault?0 -
I was wondering do certain BCA auction houses tend to attract more private buyers than others? I don't expect people 'in the know' to name them it is just that when I bought my last car I went to a couple of auctions at one site (local) but then bought from another where the prices where quite a bit lower.
Obviously this good have been a bit of a freak, so don't know if it is worth a journey to a site further away.0 -
Thankyou Harveybobbles, i know! i've read all the reviews etc... had a clio no probs and had two scenics now both been really reliable maybe just have been lucky i do prefer the grand scenic to be honest, there aren't many other cars with all the handbrake auto lights wipers etc... that i have seen i like, what would you recommend for the 5 grand mark at auction family car either estate or mpv what would be best value for money with lowish mileage for £5000? Thanks Cat0

I bought my current car in January from BCA Manchester Bellvue.
As it turns out, I could have got the same spec (also Motabaility) from a local car supermarket (no free advertising) for the same total spend: buyer's fee, transporter (no road tax), third service (not done by Motability), travel cost to Manchester from London.
I did go to said supermarket first, but the turbo was making a funny noise on the one I test drove. As it turns out, the supermarket had a constant stream of the same spec (varying colours and milage of course) from Motability, so I should have just keep test driving until I get a good one.0 -
RENAULT LAGUNA 2.0 DCI 150 INITIALE Estate, 5 Doors, Manual Transmission, Diesel. 2007 56 Average cost for this model £4650 with 90k so look at the mileage, you will normally pay around the "clean" figure, just depends how many punters want it and what the car owes.

Thanks for that so as a rule anything that averages around £7,000 retail should be around £5,000 is that right? Thanks Cat0

You wouldn't be too far off, but auctions can be an interesting place as you can get the prices ramped off by dealer ring, it depends who is selling it. The best thing is to go for a week or two and get a catalogue or take a notebook and just see what the prices are, then visit the Motorpoint type places or do a search on Autotrader
I don't know what area you are from, but there are Renault finance auctions around, which are generally direct from the dealer and pretty good, as they tend to want to shift them0 -

I've noticed that the total prices at local auction seem to be similar to what I could buy private.
I don't think I'd travel as far as you did, but have another couple within 30 mins and plenty within an hour.
The previous car I bought was from a couple of hours away but was a bargain and just what the OP is after - a three year old Grand Scenic - full service history, recent discs and pads, 11 months MOT and all for £4k. I did risk driving home with no tax but sorted it out same day at DVLA office.
EDIT - this was 18 months ago though.0 -
thanks Happychappy i can only find the nottingham renault so far, we are in kent always used blackbushe before both times i've printed out auction cat day before and found lowest and average autotrader prices online for each one and then wrote down my ceiling, both times it's been a lot cheaper than even private adverts lowest figure so definately going back, it's funny because we bought from a trader once and got a car with a major fault that no mechanic could ever pin down just used to die on us driving along or not start then you'd go back ten mins later and it would fire into life the trader wanted nothing to do with it and at the time we didn't realise we had any come back that and it was really intermittent and no one could find the problem so no proof, everything from fuel cut off solanoid to fuel pump etc... never got to the bottom of it and put it through auction at a loss another one we bought privately and once the air freshners wore off and the sun came out it stunk to high heaven of puke, so really auction has been the best for us!
Thanks again,
another question sorry, with all the bad press toyota have had recently are the corolla versos likely to be a little cheaper than usual? also what car would you recommend ? estate or mpv value for money etc... what's going through at a good/competetive price at the moment?
