Washing Machine out of Warranty

Hi folks, my parents have a Hotpoint Washing machine that is making the loudest noise ever when the drum rotates. It was bought from Hotpoints own shop as Grade A Stock. It came with a one year guarantee.
It was bought in Feb 09 and this fault has now developed, coincidentally a month after the warranty expired. There is no extenbded warranty on it.
Could I under the SOGA act say that it is not fit for purpose as the lifetime expectation of the hardware is expected to last some 5-7 years? Even though it is Grade A stock from their shop before they closed?
Thanks in advance

Don't know about Grade A but I would certainly have a go on the basis the guarantee only expired a month ago.0

It was second hand when you bought it. But don't know how that will affect your rights.0

Yes that is the thing I am unsure of. It was bought direct from their shop, so would assume it was a cancelled order or return?0

I used to work in extended warrenties. Basically, any incident not reported on the day or the day before the warrenty expired won't be honoured. It is your responsibility to ensure after this day that the machine is properly covered. The company offered you 12 month gurantee, they have lived out this responsbiliy to you now.
Additionally, now I may be wrong, but once a machine has passed hands via a second hand shop, the warrenty is invalid. You cannot prove how old this machine is, so unless you registered it with domestic and general inc serial number you may have a problem.Learning to be 'good with money'0 -
It was hotpoints own shop in Peterborough before they closed, the one attached to their plant. It was sold as grade a in the hotpoint factory store and was unused as tehy were closing down but still have engineers and support, that is what made them purchaase it as there would still be support
Therefore I do not see why it cannot be repaired as it has not lasted as long as one would reasonably expect?0 -
The shop hasn't closed, we purchased from there a couple of months ago. Its only the production line that shut down. Try giving them a call, I'm not sure where you stand regarding the warranty tho.0
