Car insurance at 23 with a DD40?

Hi, while I'm sure most on here will be in the fortunate position of a clean license, has anyone had any experience trying to gain insurance after a ban? I've been shopping around a bit recently to try and find something reasonable and I'm struggling.

I'd like to insure a Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 3dr, somewhere from 1999 to 2002 with a value of about 2k (IG6)

Cheers!

You must have gone OTT to get a DD40 - hopefully no-one was hurt.

You're not going to get a great deal with the DD, type of car and your age. You're either going to have to go for something smaller or just bite the bullet.
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

Thanks for the assumption, sadly all I did was drive home. No one else involved, no accident, no damage to anything. The Police case was "you were going faster than us, ergo your driving was dangerous"

Ive had quote from £1400 to £1600. dropping to a 1.0 corsa saves around £200 and for the sake of £200 Id rather have the focus.

Ideally I also need cover to drive other cars but that seems hard to come by under 25.

    £1400 to £1600 sounds okay.

Why do you need to drive other cars?
  • I used to regularly drive my parents cars, test drive cars I'd been working on for people, borrow friends cars for towing and suchlike. It'shandy for sharing driving on long journeys and so on. I dont NEED it but it would be extremely handy!

Why am I having so much trouble with this statement? I've never experienced any driver with a DD conviction which didn't involve something extremely serious. Driving at double the speed limit, for example.

I don't think WHY the OP got the DD40 is relevant in this situation, just that they have it.

I concur, Ive also seen DD40 given for similar offences depends on the officer and report he writes up.

On topic £1400 isnt bad at all for the vehicle and your age with that conviction, DOC will be very hard to come by purley based on your age, DOC is starting to be phased out by many insurers and restricting to 25+ was the first step.

You need a year claim free and you will start to see some reductions then again at 25...good luck

I had a DD40 10yrs ago when I was 18. Admittedly I was speeding, but the copper exagerrated and got a lot of his "facts" wrong (such as where the speed limit changed on the road). He said that oncoming cars were swerving to avoid me, and that I went around a blind bend on the wrong side of the road. Both of which were lies, no doubt so that he could secure his conviction.

Having since passed IAM for cars and bikes, I look back to that day and still feel that a verdict of Dangerous Driving was OTT.

Anyway, to the OP, when I got my licence back, I bought a 1.8 Accord which was 2 yrs old at the time, Group 8 insurance. I think I ended up going with Adrian Flux. I cant remember the exact premium, but I was paying £200 a month, so it was in the region of £2000-£2400 (not sure how much deposit I paid or the interest rates).

Give them a try mate. But £1400 seems ok in your situation.
