Car tax budget savings

However when you renew your tax it takes it from the last time your disc expired unless you have sorned it - I tried this and was still charged the new rate in April even though I renewed in March.
Nice thought OP and I hope it works for someone, but I know the PO had already updated the systems AND even though my reminder was wrong they still increased it to the correct rate.:(
On that info. I tried to renew mine; it should be going down from £35 to £20. However it was going to charge me the old rate, so the on-line system hasn't been updated. I'll wait till April 1st!0 -
OOPs. Yes, I incorrectly completed the second table. I have corrected it now - apologies.0

the OP is misleading as he quotes vehicles using alternative fuel.
The correct price for a car under 120 is £30 not £200 -

I may have overlooked the fact that in England, your Vehicle Licensing systems in the Post Office are all automated. In Northern Ireland, if you visit a Post Office with your form, they type in the amount printed on the form at the time of taxation. I know this as I work in a Post Office. On the 1st of April, we have to manually change the amount on the V11 reminder form and charge the customer the new amount. Major apologies to all you folks but it looks like only people taxing vehicles in Northern Ireland will benefit from the savings.
There should be an argument against this however if the price rise or decrease only comes into effect from 1st of April then you should not be charged the new rate before then and certainly, pricing systems should not have been updated! Not that I am being political but as Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and budget rules apply equally here, then people in the rest of the UK should not be losing out.0 -
I'm sure, when something similar happened before, we were able to get a refund for the overcharge, so no-one should lose out - I'm just waiting rather than having to go to the bother of claiming it back.0

yes the "no emission" cars are a waste of time. My neighbour tried to kill himself with a car exhaust and hosepipe but kept having to go out to get more petrol. I lent him my Lada which is a band G. He has nt returned it tho yet.0

OP - Are you aware that Northern Ireland has a completely separate vehicle licencing authority to the rest of UK? Things are different in each authority.

It must all be a mistake these morons running the country now,Hopefully for not much longer would never make it cheaper for the motorists,The the only way they keep the country from going under is to steal off the motorists.0

Did not keep up to date re road fund licence so renewed mine last week, it is due on 1/4/2010 and paid £35, new rate is £20, how likely is anybody to get a refund. Surely the renewal from DVLA should have said £20 and not £35.sanfly0 -
