I took out a mortgage with Nationwide 7 years ago. With it I did the normal thing of signing up for their buildings & contents insurance (actually underwritten by Churchill at the moment).
As I got more MSE wise I have revisitted it several times (2 weeks ago being the most recent due to my renewal on both policies coming up within the next 2 weeks).
When I checked it out (2 weeks ago - using https://www.moneysupermarket.com ) I couldn't find anyone to beat it !!!!!
There were a couple (Barclays being one that sticks in mind) that were less than £1 a month cheaper BUT wanted to slap on voluntary excesses that I dont currently have in order to arrive at that MARGINAL discount.
Personally I am not prepared to pay hefty excesses to save less than a £7 a year !!!!

I am very happy to keep my insurance with Nationwide.

I have my buildings and contents insurance through Nationwide along with my mortgage. I too check for a better deal every year and have yet to find one, that's 6 years I've been with them. Never had to claim though so don't know what the service is like.

I've been with them 3 years and can't find any better, but never had to claim.
  • I was recently approached in my local branch of Nationwide about this policy and am seriously considering switching to this when my current insurance runs out. I would like to ask those of you that have used this policy for sometime, what the yearly increments are like. I have been given a fairly low quote of £236 for both contents and buildings insurance and feel that there must be a catch somewhere even though the literature appears to suggest otherwise.

The yearly increments on my policy are small. Seems to be less than a pound increase each year.

Cannot fault it. Increase each year is minimal. Did have to claim once for a greenhouse that was blown down by high winds, just had to email photo of it directly to them and claim was taken care of, very straight forward.
