Do you think it makes any difference if....

when you enter a competion you tick / untick all the boxes to indicate that you have no interest in the product being offered and don't ever want to hear from them again?

Or do you think the prizes all go to people who subscribe to all the advertising stuff?

'ere, Black Saturn, what do you reckon.....you seem to have enjoyed a fair degree of success?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

personally I don't think it makes a lot of difference, but there again I ain't won owt

you could always try ticking a few of these boxes on the comps and then immediately unsubscribe as soon as you get the first email from them, see if it boosts ya chances :D

You would have to assume that the adjudicators were corrupt or nasty pasties.

You'll never know really but you either have to trust in the organisers or not enter at all.

I normally always do check the boxes to subscribe for the mailing lists. Having said that I have won a couple of instant wins after I unchecked the boxes.

I started a similar thread about this a while ago here:

I hardly ever tick the yes option and I've won a few things. I don't know if I would win more if I did tick it though.

  • Well I always select the no option (even thought they try to confuse you by changing the wording on half of the statements.)

Have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch me out though :D

    Any way - I just had my first win :j :j :j And I ticked the No options:j :j

    Same here .

I simply cannot be doing with spam, junk mail or marketing calls no matter how great the reward.

I actually get a bit worried if there aren't any boxes to tick/untick - this means I have to read the T&C/Privacy policy carefully, which ain't my favourite pastime :p. G
  • As someone who works in marketing and promotions, I'm afraid to say it does make a difference (I know you're not going to like me saying it, but it's the truth). As a rule of thumb, the bigger the company, the more scrupulous they are.

You're much better off opening up a dedicated email account for junkmail and ticking the boxes to receive spam.

The only thing I always reject is sms - it's just not worth the agro...

Yeh I'd like to know that too as I never tick the yes option yet I've had quite a good success with comps.
