ARGOS Extended warranty - chuffed to bits!!

First of all I have to say I have never been a fan of extended warranties until now.

In Dec 2007 we bought a 60gb PS3 from Argos. Against my better judgment, the Mrs IMPNT paid an extra £40 for the 3 year extended warranty, a total of £349.00.

Last week the said PS3 developed the Red Light of Death, i.e. failed to power up, with Call of Duty stuck inside. So not only £350 of PS3 goosed, but now a 40 quid game to boot.

So under the instruction of Mrs IMPNT, I dig out the box, receipt, instructions etc and return to Argos, expecting to be fobbed off with returns procedure etc etc.

Imagine my utter delight when the assistant refunded the complete purchase price (including the warranty), and added on £40 for the COD game, and put it straight onto an Argos gift card, without batting an eyelid!

That then enabled me to get a new PS3 Slim, 250 gb, with two new Blue Ray games and a Play TV box (enables PS3 to be used to watch and record Freeview) for £300. Could I refuse the 3 year warranty this time??

Left me with enough credit on the card to almost pay for a 320gb external Seagate HD, (with a free Belkin carry case thrown in). :T

Certainly on equipment such as games consoles, possibly PC's/laptops I won't hesitate to take the warranty. Wishing I had for my two year old Tom Tom now, as it keeps crashing and rebooting. :(

I took out cover on Nintendo DS consoles that I bought for my boys. The lady encouraged me as she said they would be covered for accidental damage and it was worth it for children.

A year later, my youngest son was getting out of the car and dropped his on the drive and one of the screens broke.

I took it back to Argos and they exchanged it without any fuss for a new one. They didn't do the silver ones anymore, but they let him pick from the other colours they had and he got a turquoise one instead.

Really pleased with the service
Here I go again on my own....

If you have the argos insurance on these sorts of items - then you will get replacement usually without a quibble.
