Debt Collection Agency chasing me...

Hi all
I have outstanding bank charges of £447.00 with the Nat West. They have been owing for some time, but were on hold because I was in dispute with the bank regarding the legality of the charges, along with millions of others.
However, since the disapointing supreme court ruling, I have now received a letter from a debt collection agency asking me to pay the debt.
I simply don't have £447 to spare and was wondering what I should do next?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

You may want to consult the lending code (page 20) to see if you could qualify under financial hardship. If you do, follow the advice given in the MSE article here:

Otherwise, have you tried to come to some arrangement to pay the debt over a period of time? They'll probably be prepared to consider such an offer.
But don't agree to any payment plan you know you can't keep to."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
