Hi
I recently acquired a refurbed PC (ex University Office stock) for my Silver Surfer Dad.
Running fine on Windows 2000 with one small hitch, no sound :undecided:
Given that I don't really want to start messing around inside the unit I was considering opting for an external soundcard (connecting through USB) - would this work as effectively and if so any recommendations?
This would purely be for streaming audio over the net rather than any gaming.
Much obliged for any help received

Well check in bios to see if there is onboard sound, if not buy a cheap sound card, try a computer fair, usually £10 or retail £15 same with amazon.co.uk.
All you do is remove power from back, open side of case, discharge static on metal bit of cases, by touching sides and pushing card into into a spare slot, screwing it in closing case adding power back to PC, rebooting installing drivers for card rebooting and sticking in plug from speakers.
Easy as that, instructions are in documentation with sound card.
Put it this way it's as easy as rewiring a plug or making a slice of toast.0
