    The only joke is the standard of our education that sends people to university who can't spell!!

    To the OP - If you are hoping to eventually get a job with this company then you should not ask for paid leave; it does not demonstrate that you have a work ethic. And yes, many of us carry out voluntary work in the community and do not expect our employers to pay for it.

    I'm going to give it a few months, but will ask if I can work an extra few days after my contract in return for having a few days off to help at the camp.

    Yes. My time, not my employers.

    New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

    Oh my.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Perhaps you should spend some of your apparently hard earned on a dictionary ;)

    And yes thanks, on top of a 45+ hour working week I spend about 25-30 of my own spare hours doing charity work.

    The implication here being you think they don't.
    Apart from what they do in their own time that we don't see, which is their business, what do you think those who have given you advice (whether it's been advice you wanted to hear, or not) are doing while replying to your post?

    That seems like a fair compromise. Without wanting to sound too patronising, scheduling ALL your commitments like this is one of the things you will need throughout your career/life and an appreciation of that is something you should hope to take away from this experience.

    the camp is in August, and you have two other holidays booked for the summer?

    i dont know of any employer grants someone more than two weeks allocation in each quarterly period anyway, whether paid or not

    i cant think that this camp has suddenly appeared out of thin air, as most take quite a bit of planning, due to expenses. perhaps you should have turned down the holidays with the family/friends, if your volunteering is so important to you

    i've never worked anywhere that stopped me from having three weeks off at a time. done it every year for the last 10 years without anyone batting an eyelid.

    Most companies will only allow it if it is for like a holiday to Australia where people understand that its 2 days worth of travelling so needs to be worth it. You obviously have a good boss!
