RBS tesco credit card over limit fee

Hi everyone, need a bit of advice.....
Had a letter from RBS (tesco credit card) saying I'd exceeded the limit. I never use this credit card as I know it's nearly maxed out. It's now £12 over my limit for which I will be charged £12.
When I got the statement, the limit went over due to the Payment protection insurance I have on the card.
TBH I never took a lot of notice of this insurance, but now having been on this site, I think it was one of those tick boxes on a prefilled application form when I applied for the card. Can I claim as missold ppi?
Also, can I ask for them to refund the £12 if proven missold?
Will this also affect my credit rating now?
Shall I (or can I) cancel this insurance now?
When I took on the card I was in full time employment with the NHS, so only very small chance of being made redundant. I still work in the NHS and have a permanent contract.
I have also never missed a payment with this card. I still have all the statements.
Grateful for any help!!!

You can claim back the £12 whether or not the PPI was missold or not. If the PPI at the time was taken out was inappropriate for your circumstances, ie unemployed, pensioner, had medical condition that invalidated the cover then it would be classed as misselling, even if you did qualify for other terms within the policy.
I would re ask the question re PPI on that part of the forum and they can advise what to do about reclaiming the PPI.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • Hi, thanks, have just phoned them, they have refunded the £12. The person on the phone said to phone customer services on Monday and they may be able to refund me all monies owed if the policy was missold.
Will ring them Monday, fingers crossed.
