laminate flooring help

Hi all, start out in my first flat and taking on the diy jobs.
was wondering if someone could answer a small qustion for me?

Recently i put down laminate flooring (sound board proofing underneath)
however i have noticed now that when i stand on some parts it apears to flex slightly
not that big a deal but annoying. so now some bits feeling normal and other a little soft if that makes sense. When installing i checked for nails etc but seem to missed something.

I beleive the problem is that i dont have flat subfloor?
i put down the proofing boards (20mill 1s i think) but they seem to not be helping in this department.

It was recommended that i take it back up and screw down thick plywood to act as a leveler and then relay however if i do this i will have to adjust door heights etc..

anyone ever came across this problem and can recommend any tips?

  • did you allow a gap inbetween the flooring edge, and the skirting? this is called an expansion joint, and is essential. If you fitted it tight against the skirting, then the flooring will plim up, like hwat youre experiencing.

I have noticed the same on my new laminate floor in one area. I have left a gap around the edge.

It might be the floorboards flexing I'm not sure - they are a bit dodgy in some parts.
An uneven floor below sounds like a possible reason. My living room floor (by others!) is on a concrete slab and that flexes a bit when you walk on it.

Sounds like an uneven floor and it will be very difficult to resolve. You could try replacing the sound board with plywood screwed to the floor plus thin foam underlay.
