Football boots tearing

Options
Hi all,

I purchased a pair of football boots at the end of August as I usually do for the new season.

They were a pair of Adidas f50i, and cost £125, so not exactly cheap. To cut a very long story short, I've just gone to clean them for tomorrow, and have noticed that they've started to tear on the instep of the left foot.

I'm not entirely sure what my rights are towards footwear warranties. I can't find much on google, and I've long since thrown the box away with the warranty information. If anybody can give me any advice about what action I can take I'd really appreciate it, as I'm not entirely sure what would constitute 'fit for purpose' a la the Sale of Goods Act.

I only wear the boots once a week on a Saturday as we train on astro-turf and so wear trainers, so it's not as if I'm wearing them 4 or 5 times a week.

I guess I'm just a bit annoyed that such an expensive pair of boots have only lasted about 7 months. It's also not like it's the first problem I've had - upon changing the studs for the first time, the base-plate threaded and so had to shell out £40 for a new set of those!

Anyway, rant over, any help would be welcome!

  • Hi

Had a similar problem with boots bought last May - didnt wear them until August & by November the upper had come away from the sole plate - took photos & then returned the boots (to Prosoccerdirect) They offered a replacement pair up to the value of the original pair. No argument - but a pair of boots should last more than 25 games & i would have argued Sale of Good act had i needed to
  • It's annoying, as I'm actually in love with these boots, they're so comfortable!

My problem now is that I've got quite a few games coming up, and if I send them my boots I'll have nothing else to wear. Due to spending quite a bit recently unexpected, I can't exactly go and purchased a new pair for the time-being. The last time I sent something in to PSD, it got 'lost in the post', although Royal Mail confirmed it was delivered so I don't exactly trust them completing the process quickly...

Not much I can do though!
