Hi Wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I've got an Iomega 1.5 tb Hard drive which works fine on my XP but it's not recognised on my Windows 7. The hard drive hasnt got a drive letter. How can I fix it. Thanks

Iomega, as far as I know don't make hard drives. So is this from an Iomega backup device ? if so then it has its own proprietary disk format. Does the XP machine use drivers to see the drive? How are you connecting the drive SATA, USB, networked ?0

I think you probably have to assign a drive letter to it using the Disk Administrator.
Type Disk Management into the search box (that is visible when you click the start button) and it should open up the screen you need.
Right-Click on the disk and assign it a drive letter.0 -
I think the more suitable question to have asked is, is this an internal or external hard drive?
It may be as simple as assigning a drive letter in disk managment as mentioned above, or if it is an internal drive you may need some drivers to get it running.
By the way totalsolutions i can send you a picture of an iomega hard drive if you wish as i have one sitting here on the desk.0 -
I stand corrected, Sir0

Is this a network drive?
Win7 does not 'see' networked drives that use Samba software.
The drive has to be 'mapped' using a usb connection.

It's an external hard drive. Tried to assign letter via the disk management but can't do it. Get message saying 'Operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up to date, Click refresh' But nothing happens when I do this. Thanks0

It might be worth taking a look at the Iomega support forums, in particular the 'Windows 7 Compatibility' thread, which has a link to a Microsoft tool.
