Ah thanks pink-winged. I was just thinking it was odd that someone else had the same post at the same time!
Yes, we thought of the amnesty thing as well but thought that was for "bad" weapony knives?0 -
i would have thought recycling them was a good idea (not in a recycle box though). i'd check out if you have a metal recycling scheme in your area and go with that. certainly putting them in the bin or taking them to a car boot isn't the option. the advantage with recycling is that metal prices are up and you may be able to get some money for them...0

I've bought most of my kitchen knives from car boot sales, so obviously I'm happy to see them sold there!0

I'll check with my neighbour tonight as he's a police officer. I have a few I need to "dispose off" too and have been storing them in a box for ages as didn't know what to do with them!
Thanks for posting as I would have never thought to ask my neighbour! duh!

I think if it were me, particularly at the present moment, I'd hand them into the police station. At least then there'd be no risk of them being obtained by someone who might use them for something other than peeling potatos, cutting meat etc.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

i recently needed to get rid of loads. so i phoned my police station and asked them . i felt a fool for phoneing them, but they said they wished more people would phone and ask simple questions like this.
Anyway the advice i was given was to wrap them up and put them in a box, then when i got to local tip hand them to one of the workers who will dispose of them safety for me. as it is very very dangerous to put them out in household rubbish , even if securely wrapped up.
