URGENT, is laminate flooring warped?

Hello everyone

Bought some laminate flooring off ebay last night, called quick step. Our carpenter has tried to lay it but it keeps popping out. It is not clicking in.

It was kept in a garage before we bought it could it be warped? or is just our carpenter, he is 72 and i dont think he has used this stuff before.

Leave it until sunday & try again.

If the same happens it could be warped.

The garage doesnt have heating. Your house does. So it is likely to need time to adjust to the heat of your house.

Firstly you have to let laminate acclimatise to the room conditions in which it is to be layed for at least 24 hours. Quick step in one of the best makes out there so they should be okay, however if they have become too damp you may have some issues as you have suggested.

    EDIT :SNAP as above!

I'd leave it for a week. Especially if you stack the boards on top of each other.

It can bow, especially if you have stored it on its end, propped against a wall. Store it flat in the room it is to be fitted and try again in a few days.

    As they all said.

Same thing happened with us when we tried laying it too quickly. Few days of being left alone in the house and it went down ok (not good because it is a !!!!!! till you get used to it!). Still going strong 5 years later :D (with my kids, it's a miracle)

Quickstep does warp if it gets wet. I had to replace a large area.

  • not that it realy matters, but one thing you havent stated-is the core (the middle bit that the laminate is laid on top of) MDF or chipboard?

If either is exposed to moisture, it will swell up.

The other important thing he must do is to allow an expansion joint ( a gap) of at least 10-15mm between the edge of the laminate and the edge of the skirting, othewrise the laminate will plim up and bulge -and it can happen overnight, so be careful!
