steam cleaning

Hi there,

I am moving in with my boyfriend - I am so very excited but would prefer to live in my flat as it is 'nicer', but his is bigger. And as I keep reminding myself, it isn't about the place, but the person!

Anyway, his flat has very much been a bachelor pad, with him renting the spare room to his mate for tha lsat two years. Needless to say that they two of them haven't kept on top of the cleaning routine. The bathroom is yucky. While i have had a scrub at it and removed some of the disgustingness (!) i can't shift all the soap scum and get into those hard to reach places what ever i try. Then I had an idea - what if i steam cleaned the bathroom?

Would this work? I know i can rent one from the shop along the road, so that's ok, but how do i use it to it's best ability? can i clean other things with it?

help and guidance needed please!!!:T

You can steam clean the bathroom. Tiles, tapes, sink, bath, toilet, you name it.

You can do the oven, hob, carpets, windows. Curtains and the 3 piece suite as long as its not draylon or velvet.

Make him do some of it though. If you start the live in relationship by cleaning up after him he will expect it to be done for him all the time after that.

Are you moving in as his housekeeper?

Steam cleaning,i think will loosen the dirt, but only good old fashioned elbow grease will remove it.only you know what its like, but i favour using an old toothbrush, descaling fluid ,bleach ,but not all at the same time.

Sorry love, but I favour telling him you'll move in when he's cleaned it up himself! This falling so easily into gender stereotyping, and his apparent happiness to let the 'little woman' do the cleaning is causing my hackles to rise...

Exactly where has she said he is not willing to help.Go fly the flag for girl power elsewhere. How can a simple question become an essay on stereotyping.Stereotyping of men is just as objectionable.

    those suggestions look great thanks.

Thanks for all your concern regarding me setting myself up for all the cleaning. We have been chatting it about all these kind of issues and any steam cleaning would be done by both of us (or at least the other person would be doing an equivalent), i was just looking for some info on what we could use it on. Not got used to using 'we' in my posts yet!!!

    thanks

Well it didn't seem like 'he' was going to be very involved to me. The excitement of starting a new life together will soon fizzle out if the OP ends up with all the dirty work.
No need bite, by the way, just expressing a point of view - as I believe I'm entitled to do - sorry it didn't suit you. I can assure you it was done with genuine concern for the OP ;)
