In this case as mobile phones are not covered above 39 pounds for international deliveries, no PO service is suitable. Unless the phone is of low value, it is probably best to limit phone sales to the UK.0

Or try to find a Paypal-able* courier that'll insure you to the required amount. In this case as mobile phones are not covered above 39 pounds for international deliveries, no PO service is suitable. Unless the phone is of low value, it is probably best to limit phone sales to the UK.

I have read this thread with great interest because my wife has posted a present to friends in South Africa and was told at the post office that the best way to ensure that it got there was to send small airmail at £5.70 then pay for signed international service. now she did not have the benefit of the web site to tell her that its not possible to get proof of delivery.
I called Royal Mail to be told that they WONT provide a signature as they are not the end deliverer and that its tough. I asked him what service I had paid for to be told that the item would be signed for at the other end. I then asked that if I paid Royal mails agents for that service then Royal Mail are under obligation to provide proof of delivery. He was shocked that I did not understand thast no signature could be provided in any circumstances and that he could not even tell me if the parcel had arrived in Johannesburg.
I notice that a number of Ex post office workers are involved in this discussion, can you please tell me what I actually paid for. Its like buying a lottery ticket but not knowing which draw it belongs to or what the numbers are. I understand that you all say its in the TERMS AND CONDITIONS. But when you are not sending regular items its real easy to be mislead by the staff in the post office and the receipt.
I cant be sure what she was told as she posted it on the 17th of March, but the fact remains I have a receipt that states international signed and to be honest I expect that service to be able to prove that the item has been received, If they cant prove that its been received what happens, do i just bang in a claim in 30 days time? That sounds like a real good idea. Clearly they wont be able to prove it has arrived.0 -
you have to look globablly
when you pay for IS,RM track the item to the point bit leaves the UK
from that point on it is down to the receiving postal service to obtain a signature and pass that info back to RM
it is the exact same for items coming to the UK from South Africa(in this case) requiring a signature
as for claiming, you realise RM can prove they sent it to SA? it may still track
its down to SA mail to get that info back to RM
of course you can claim but if you want point ot point tracking then you need to use a carrier that operates globally0 -
But the receipt does not say that............
Don't get me wrong I understand your point of view, but just put yourself in the position that you knew nothing about the service........ How can they sell a service that they cant provide, it would be like you going into a garage to get a fault checked on your car and them then telling you because they used a different computer they know you have a something wrong but they cant tell you what it is or show you the results. oh and already having charged you for the service.
I have since looked at the website and quite frankly its a cop-out by Royal mail.
I understand what you are saying about the global carriers and I wish i had used them but I have never come across this problem with sending odd items out before.
Do you think if i supply the details to my friend in South africa he would get anywhere with trying to trace the reference his end?0 -
well they would have to speak to the SA post
they can track on their service as to whether the item has ever been scanned in SA0
