Refused Card - Worth an appeal?

in Credit cards
from reading around the forums, i came across someone who said they were initially truned down for a CC, but wrote to the company in question, and then ended up with a CC with a decent limit on it.
and i know its bad to keep applying for different cards, as all the credit checks show on your credit report, is it worth giving a shot?
if so, what should i say, how should i go about phrasing everything?
thanks.

I recently did this with the amazon card - I just wrote to them and said that I had recently applyed for tehre card - I was dissapointed to hear that they had rejected me - I gave a brief description of why I wanted the card and why I chose amazon (bigged them up a bit) I had a phone call a few days later asking me to send in my bank statements - I then had another phone call a few days after I sent these off saying I had been accepted with a £7000 credit limit.0

I would agree that if you really want the card then an appeal is preferable to 'using up' another search with a different company.
For all you know it could be something that an employee typed in incorrectly when processing your application.0 -
I had the same with a co-op card ages ago, was turned down. I phoned up and because their application form hadn't asked for my husband/partner's salary, they had turned me down on my salary alone. They asked me to confirm my husbands salary and asked for a bank statement and then I got the card. It is always worth a phone call to see if you can send further information to them.0

ok thanks all for the advice, i was dreading having to get a 30% ish card, cos i would hate to have to pay that much interest.
i'll give them a call and see what can be done, coming to think about it i dont think they asked any information about partners income.....0 -
Is this likely to work in relation to a less than perfect credit file.
e.g. A lot of the examples here have just been expanding on the information provided, etc but if I was refused because of a default on my credit file, is it worth appealing. Especially given that I don't even think the default is mine and I'm currently contesting it?0
