Scittish Power - announce a Gas Decrease then increase Electricity
Just noticed that Scottish Power have re-priced their Core electricity prices in 2 regions meaning electricity customers in Yorkshire will be worse off. I don't remember seeing that in their in press release.
Only supplier to put up electricity prices, not a good message!
Looks like they released prices for their March 2010 price change and then followed this up with a further re-pricing effective the same date once the dust had settled.

Nope, nothing about it in their press release

Their current tariff details on their site are still those effective March 2009

(presumably because the price changes announced haven't come into force yet)
Do you have a link to anything online about the rise in electricity prices, or did you just receive a letter from them? Does it say what other the region is that is affected other than Yorkshire?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I recieved the info straight from Scottish Power.
Electricity prices in London will go down but Yorkshire will go up. These are the only amendments. Changes will go live on the 31st of March 2010.
New Yorkshire rate will be 11.858 per unit (ex VAT) up from 10.157 Standing charge will be unchanged.
Perhapse the Scottish Power official Rep would like to comment.0 -
Yes, but its only on the unit rate not the standing charge so it equals an extra £56 a year (at typical).
Probably a nudge from OFGEM in regards to aligning regional margins.0 -

To be fair SP have been the cheapest supplier for electricity only properties in Yorkshire for a couple of years now - we are lucky it has lasted over such a cold winter. I have just switched to NPower to take advantage of the £65 cashback, will switch to a cheaper supplier before the winter hits. IIRC once the price increases are announced you can switch without them affecting your final bill - maybe worth hanging on for the announcement?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
As told electricity prices in Yorkshire have gone up today, still no announcment from SP. Prices available on comparison sites.
Very sneaky.0 -
Surly that's illigal one part of the Country has to pay more for the same service.
Discrimination against Yorkshire folk0 -
Have you not heard of regional pricing? its not illegal every region pays different amounts.
Its just Yorkshire has been really cheap for elec.0 -
Don't see why. Sounds to me as another way to rip people off. I get the same service as anyone else regardless of where i live in the Country.
I doubt Yorkshire has been really cheap for electricity.0 -
Because each regions network is operated by different companies who have different overheads would be one, as each region is a different distance from the source of its energy and has different storage capacities would be another.
Yorkshire was only cheap for Scottish powers core tariff as their Gas was expensive.0
