Hey guys, iv just had a bill through from EDF which is £100 more than i expected it to be, but when looking it seems i have been put on an Economy 7 Tariff since the man hsa been out to read the meter, so they have moved me from the Online Version 5 that i originaly siged up for, so this one which costs twice as much, iv phoned them up but they have said im not entitled to be on V5 While i have an Economy 7 meter, and would need to get it changed to move onto it. But, the last 3 companies i have been with have never had a problem, because the night rate doesnt move/work and never has, but EDF are refusing to count only the day rate and say i have to pay the 18p - 11p a unit instead of 10p - 8p like i thought i was getting.
When you change from an economy 7 meter to a normal one, do thye put a new one in or just disconect the night part of it and put everything onto the day meter? Could this be the mistake?
Hope you can help guys

They will change the meter for free, if you've been with them more than 28days all you need to is phone and request it.
I would get in touch with customer services, if you signed up to V5 you should at least be charged V5 E7 prices. This is what happened with me, I don't need E7 tariff but had E7 meter and was used to BG just adding night and day together to get one read. EDF say their system doesn't allow for that hence the need for a new meter. I had to wait 28 days during which I was meant to be on V5 E7 tariff. When they applied a charge to my account I could see it was more than I anticipated and questioned it. It appears they had been charging standard tariff so when I pointed out it was V5 I had signed up to, they said 'yes it was, our mistake' and re adjusted the charge.
Get back on to them, do you still have the paperwork welcoming you to V5?0 -
Yeah i still have the paperwork, but they say its my fault for putting down that i had a standard meter, which i admit yes it was my fault for not checking, but British Gas had me on a non E7 tariff so i assumed the night rate had been diabled. Iv just been on the phone, they are coming out on the 9th to replace the meter, they said they dont have an E7 v5 tariff available now and i will still be charged what it says on my statment. So im just going to have to be extra vigilant on the electric we use so the direct debit can hopefully pay it off over the next 12 months0

Oh dear, maybe I got away with it because I phoned at the start and asked about my meter. How frustrating for you.0

You currently have a dual rate meter.
BG are prepared to supply on a single rate tariff even though you have a dual rate meter. They either add the two registries together or simply charge each registry at the same single rate.
Not all suppliers will do this (probably since the dual rate meter costs more as an overhead compared to a single rate meter). EDF will usually only supply a single rate tariff via a single rate meter (which they won't charge to change for you, unlike some suppliers)
You'll also get a revised MPAN, as that also indicates (especially the MTC) the type of meter you have."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
