I'm aware that it's been available by tuning to ITV London then pressing red button on Freesat, but the news here is that it's launching as a seperate channel, instead of having to use the red button. It can be hacked into on Sky, and will be freely available on Freesat, at channel 119 apparantly. ITV press release (including where to find it on various platforms) here: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/pressreleases/programmepressreleases/itv1hdtolaunchinapril/default.html
I can't see any reference to OP's question, and they would need to mention it, so I can only guess that it's been resolved and going nationwide...

That's all very well but you can't record or pause the programmes.

But as of today it's supposed to launch as a proper channel, without any tricks mentioned above, on all platforms - Sky, Freesat, Freeview and Virgin so then you will be able to do all that Bannsider mentions. Re-scan for channels or whatever it is you do on your chosen platform.

    Are you in Northern Ireland?

There is no Freeview HD here. ITV 1 HD has been available from breakfast this morning on the other platforms but not in Northern Ireland or Scotland. As pointed out before it can be obtained using the "add channels" method but the pause or record functions are disabled.

I can confirm I now get ITV1hd on channel 119 on my Panasonic freesat TV , with London news rather than the local Meridan news. I am in West Sussex.

Does anyone know when we get Channel 4 HD , E4HD and 5 HD. They all seem to be on or are going to Sky!

Bannsider, yes I'm in NI and am able to get ITVHD through FreeSat - ITVHD did launch nationwide on FreeviewHD, and no, NI doesn't get it until 2012. If you want it in your proper Freesat mode, you'll have to use an English or Welsh postcode, which will lose you UTV, BBC1NI, BBC2NI and the local C4 feed. Best compromise for me is just to switch to non-freesat mode where I'm able to get ITVHD.
This STV contract issuse is a complete mess. I don't know the details of it, but it's just messing ITV's customers around, and they can't afford to do that!
Anglo - Yes, whilst there are loads of ITV regions, ITVHD is national, so the news and advertising is what Londoners get.
You should get yourself over to the DigitalSpy forums to find out about the other HD channels - I think it's a disgrace that Channel 4 which gets public money has 2 HD channels on Sky that aren't available on Freesat, and the only speculation I've heard is that they're stuck in a contract with Sky or that they're trying to find some space in the satellite bandwidth.

Posted this in another thread also - Could somebody please clarify for me if it is actually possible to view any HD channels in NI via a HD Freeview box??? Some of the posts here suggest it's possible, using a GB postcode, but NI isn't supposed to get Freeview HD until 2012????

HD Channels are available on FREESAT here. I think ITVHD is on non-Freesat. I think HD channels are not yet available in FREEVIEW N.Ireland

Freeview HD will not be available in NI until November 2012. BBC ONE HD (network), BBC HD, C4HD and ITV1HD are available on Freesat. (ITV1HD is only available if you tell the box you have an English or Welsh postcode, but you can use "Customise Channels" to put BBC1NI and BBC2NI back on 101 and 102.
