It does happen, not sure how frequently though!
However, if you try to negotiate on price this might be disadvantageous, as the seller may simply contact the other potential buyer.

No, I'm definitely not considering pulling out at this stage. I have been informed that the other potential buyer has been told that the property is going to me, which was a huge relief! I'm quite happy overall with the price I'm paying - I got 3k below the asking price and luckily I don't have to compromise with any of the things I was looking for (budget, location, garden, parking). I will be a happy girl if this all goes through!0
